Liquid Assets

Liquid Assets: Life Source in Movement & Light

Water is life and the most valuable asset for our communities and planet. It is also powerful, nourishing, and healing.

This is a series of abstract and landscape photographs that show the movement, light, life force, and energy of water in images that you may not immediately recognize as water.

They are in forms that encompass all the seasons and manifestations and colors of water -- flowing, clouded, colorful with plant matter and reflective of the environment and sky, and frozen.

  • Time Travel

    Time Travel

Experience the timelessness image of water flowing freely down the Rocky Mountains. These routes are both ancient and impermanent; dwindling due to climate warming and less snowpack every winter. Water is life, and with this river comes life-giving support for thousands of species of wildflowers, wildlife, and yes, humans, too.

    Shimmer

Circles and swirls of light shimmer amidst river rocks in Boulder Creek, creating pools in the rise and fall of moving water.

  • Integral Yin-Yang 1

    Integral Yin-Yang 1

Exploring the varied textures and shapes in nature of the symbolic yin-yang, where duality is both complementary and integrated. This diptych is a reflective and imperfect variation on the symbolic yin-yang circle of black and white dualism. Showcasing structural disruptions and altered light and shadows is an attempt to show the messy reality of trying to achieve perfect balance in life. Allowing for this natural flow is integral -- essential and fundamental to our interdependencies and completeness.

    Iceometry 1

Space, time, and texture in glimmering light. Are you seeing the expanse of the universe or half an inch of an icicle? Origin geometry, the creation of all that exists, is replicated at scale. So connection to this image is related to perspective of your place in the world.

  • Three Sisters

    Three Sisters

Families are fraught with interdependencies and independent spirits. This is true of relationships in nature, too, where living things act in their own interests and those actions within one community can affect all the others nearby. This system is a beautiful dance of autumn light.

  • Autumnal Arch

    Autumnal Arch

The bridge over Boulder Creek is reflected in the water below and fall leaves swim on the surface. I made this to feel like a painting, a surreal dream of earth and sky and the water that skims the surface between.

    Mellifluous (Long)

Verdant green emerges from the rich soil of the rocky mountains and glitters under the metallic light of an early summer sun on the cold creek. Notice the minutiae of the budding world beneath your feet, even in the grandest of places, and know that what we feed our soil feeds these plants that feed our wildlife. Deluge by the Drop

The force of falling water can change a landscape drop by drop. The strength of this waterfall blurs the world outside like a veil, but captivates us as we explore the cave behind it and watch as gravity pulls it toward the inevitable crash and reverberations on the rocks below. An obscured view of the world from a cave behind a waterfall. Spouting Rock waterfall above Hanging Lake in Colorado.

"Water, clean water, is the most valuable resource for the planet. We revel in its beauty, yet we are often separated from the life teeming vibrantly below the surface. This image is a reminder that our life on land converges with and sustained by life within our water sources."
